First and foremost we want to wish you Happy Holidays from all of us at Homescout Realty! Please click here to go to our special Homescout Holiday card and have fun testing your knowledge of Chicago.

Although 2009 is coming to end, we are working hard to bring you an even better 2010! Look forward to the new calendar of amazing events, our introduction of “Urban Upgrade” (an education program for first time homebuyers), and our new customer loyalty program!

In this issue, you’ll find our newest hot property and the latest installment of Upgrade Your Lifestyle, featuring design tips for the “Serial Mover.” We’re also sharing the latest news about our Homescout Has Heart community initiative. In the spirit of the Holiday season Homescout is doing a lot of exciting things to spread the holiday cheer. Our real estate consultants volunteered their time at the Greater Chicago Food Depository. We also have our charity gift program for everyone we found a home for in 2009; it was a great way to end the year!

We hope you have a wonderful holiday season, and we look forward to being a resource to you in 2010!

All The Best,
Michael Krasman & Jeff Ellman

Homescout Has Heart.

Homescout is spreading the holiday cheer all around Chicago this season! Twenty-two Real Estate consultants came together this week to volunteer their time and sort food at the Greater Chicago Food Depository. We boxed over 1,200 emergency food boxes for families around not only Chicago, but the entire state of Illinois. Each box will feed a family of five for three days!

Homescout Has Heart Holiday Style was another community initiative this December. This year, in lieu of sending gifts to clients that we’ve had the pleasure of working with over the past year, we wanted to make a charitable donation on their behalf. We know that with the current economy, the non-profit world is getting hit hard with a lack of donations and we wanted to give back where we can, and help the organizations spread their mission. All of the local charities we are working with will receive a contribution from Homescout, and the one that receives the most votes will get the largest donation!  We are still counting the votes, but the results will be on our website in the New Year. The four charities we are working with this year are:
Imerman Angels: One on one cancer support
Greater Chicago Food Depository: Chicago’s largest food bank
Make-A-Wish: Grants wishes to children with life threatening diseases
PAWS Chicago: The city’s largest no kill animal shelter

Serial Mover? 3 Ways to Decorate When You’re Always Packing!

by: Erin Wasson

Many Chicago young professionals have been “serial movers” since college. We've moved from dorm to dorm, and from apartment to apartment, year after year. Now that we’re in the work force, not much has changed. It’s a constant struggle to find decent roommates, affordable rent, and convenient locations based on our ever-evolving life circumstances.

But just because we essentially live out of boxes doesn’t mean we have to scrimp in the home décor department. Here are three home design ideas for the “serial mover” minimalist:

1 • Create your own lightweight, portable headboard for your bed
Visit an art store like Blick Art Supply and purchase a large, blank, primed canvas. Next, decide on one or two complementing accent colors. Buy a small can of acrylic wall paint and a large varnishing brush from a local home improvement store. All the supplies should cost no more than $50. After painting your canvas, mount it low on the wall, just above your bed to appear like a headboard. Click Here for even more DIY headboard ideas!

2 • Add some wall accents for next to nothing
Add shimmery, silver wall accents using nothing more than Scotch Aluminum Foil Tape, a yardstick, pencil, and scissors. Whether creating the illusion of living room wall moldings, or mounting small geometric designs in the bathroom, the foil looks best along cool colored walls such as shades of blue, gray, or purple.

3 • Use your books for more than just a coaster
I have many leather-bound books, and my apartment smells of rich mahogany. Ah yes,   we’re a sophisticated, literate young bunch. Most of us have bulky boxes of books that are too beloved to part with, so they travel with us from home to home. Instead of throwing them on a coffee table haphazardly, arrange them in small bunches by the color of their covers, and use them as accent pieces around the house.
